This IDC Survey Spotlight compares the small and medium-sized business (SMB) digital transformation (DX) effort before and since the emergence of the global COVID-19 pandemic. It investigates both the shift in priority of digital transformation and the shift in digital maturity now that organizations have had some time to pivot their businesses.
According to Shari Lava, research director, IDC’s Worldwide Small and Medium Business, “Prior to the emergence of COVID-19, both small and medium-sized businesses were less focused on digital transformation than their enterprise peers. At the outset of the pandemic, many SMBs planned to cut technology spending, but quickly reversed course and instead started investing in technology. The challenge now is harnessing that technology into a full transformation strategy to really get maximum benefits.”
