At a joint webinar on how to keep agri-food workers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), International Labour Organization (ILO) and Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) discussed what measures to use to protect the health of workers in the food supply chain.

It was acknowledged that COVID-19 is not a foodborne disease. However, the pandemic has the potential to affect food security and food safety if proper protection of workers in food businesses is not maintained.

Vaccination, education and awareness raising and implementation of public health measures in food businesses are needed to sustain the supply of safe and plentiful foods.
