An app designed to help electric car owners locate points where they can plug in their vehicles has announced that it’s now available on Apple CarPlay.

Zap-Map – one of the leaders in electric vehicle mapping – is already used by many EV drivers to help them find nearby chargers, either locally or when travelling further away. This free service will remain, but the firm is now introducing a more advanced subscription service for electric car drivers that regularly use public charging points.

Two options will be available, Zap-Map Plus and Zap-Map Premium.

The former costs £2.49 per month as part of an annual plan, and provides more in-depth information about chargers – including ratings and finding the newest chargers. A new route planner will also be offered while what3words integration – which provides the most accurate location possible – will save drivers struggling to work out where chargers are located in car parks.

Upgrading to Zap-Map Premium (costing £3.99 per month) brings the new Apple CarPlay integration, which – providing the EV has this function on its touchscreen – enables you to mirror your phone’s interface onto the media system. Android Auto will also be introduced soon.

Melanie Shufflebotham, Zap-Map’s co-founder and chief operating officer, said: “Electric vehicles are on the cusp of going mainstream and Zap-Map is on hand to show people the way. Our new service is built for everyone; from total beginners to experienced ‘EV heads’.

“We spent many months listening to our users and creating a unique platform which responds to what people really need when driving their EV and accessing the public charging networks.”
