The Chinese Lantern Festival, also known as Yuan Xiao Jie, is celebrated on the 15th day of the Chinese New Year, marking the end of the festive season and welcoming the arrival of spring. This year, as the maiden full moon of the Year of the Dragon illuminated the sky, festivities across China grew increasingly extravagant with vibrant lights, spectacular fireworks, bustling night markets, and entertaining activities such as lantern riddle-solving contests.
The highly anticipated 2024 Lantern Festival Gala, organized by China Media Group (CMG), dazzled viewers with a mix of traditional Chinese customs and modern technological advancements. With performances ranging from music and dance to comedy and acrobatics, the gala engaged a global audience in the magic of glowing lanterns, interactive riddle games, and joyous celebrations.
Thirteen charismatic hosts from various cities like Shenyang, Changsha, Xi’an, and Kashgar graced the stage, connecting the audience with intriguing riddles and spreading messages of harmony and beauty. One standout performance was the innovative program “Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon,” which combined different art forms to present a fresh perspective on traditional Chinese culture.
