The City of Alexandria is celebrating its 275th birthday this year with a special performance by the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic. The concert will feature George Gershwin’s iconic masterpiece, Rhapsody in Blue, with local Gershwin specialist Thomas Pandolfi on piano.
Taking place on Sunday, March 24 at 3pm at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, the event promises to showcase the virtuosity of the piano and clarinet, paying homage to the influences of jazz and American musical cultures.
Thomas Pandolfi’s interpretation of Gershwin’s concerto is described as eloquent and dynamic, seamlessly blending toe-tapping rhythms with seductive blues notes and sweeping crescendos, making for a captivating performance.
The concert program will also include works by Jennifer Higdon, Samuel Barber, and John Alden Carpenter, culminating in the Gershwin finale. Music director Anna Binneweg will lead the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic in what promises to be a memorable evening of music.
