The Dorset Theatre Festival has unveiled the complete cast for its 2024 main stage season, featuring productions of “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” by Martin McDonagh and “Sidekicked” by Kim Powers. The festival will run from June 21 to September 7 at the Dorset Playhouse.
Leading the cast in “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” will be two-time Tony nominee Kristine Nielsen, known for her work in “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” alongside recording artist Maxine Linehan. Nielsen will portray Mag, with Linehan taking on the role of Maureen in this play by Academy Award winner Martin McDonagh. The production will be directed by Dorset’s resident playwright, Theresa Rebeck. David Mason and Eimhin FitzGerald Doherty will also join the cast as Pato and Ray, respectively.
In “Sidekicked,” Kelly McAndrew, best known for her role in “Orange is the New Black,” will star as Vivian Vance. The play, written by Kim Powers, explores the life of the actress behind Ethel Mertz, who was a constant sidekick to Lucille Ball.
The festival will also feature productions of “Native Gardens” and the world premiere of “True Art,” with casting announcements for these shows to come at a later date. For more information on the Dorset Theatre Festival and its upcoming season, visit dorsettheatrefestival.org.
