Cate Blanchett, the Oscar-winning actress, is set to receive the prestigious Donostia Award at the upcoming 72nd San Sebastian Film Festival. Known for her iconic roles in films like “The Aviator,” “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and the recent Oscar-nominated “Tár,” Blanchett has accumulated over 200 acknowledgments and accolades throughout her illustrious career, including two Academy Awards from six nominations, four BAFTAs, and four Golden Globes.
The festival, taking place in San Sebastian, Spain from September 20-28, will see Blanchett feature on its official poster, designed by graphic artist José Luis Lanzagorta. While this will be her first visit to the event, the festival has previously screened some of her films, such as “Babel” (2007) and “Veronica Guerin” (2003), which have competed for the prestigious Golden Shell prize.
This announcement marks the second time an Australian actor has been honored with the festival’s highest award, following Hugh Jackman in 2013. Additionally, Blanchett is also set to be part of the inaugural lineup for the Cannes Film Festival’s Immersive Competition section, showcasing cutting-edge virtual reality and augmented reality works alongside other talented actors like Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell, Millie Bobby Brown, and Tahar Rahim. The lineup promises to highlight innovative VR and AR techniques, including location-based virtual reality, mixed reality experiences, projection mapping, and holographic works.
