The University of Westminster’s Indian National Students Association (INSA) recently organized a lively Holi celebration for students and alumni on 24 March at the Arena Lounge in Wembley, near the University’s Harrow Campus.
Holi, a significant Hindu festival known for its colorful celebrations and throwing of powdered pigments and water, symbolizes the arrival of spring and is a time of joy and love. The event, attended by over 300 students, marked one of the largest festivals hosted by the University.
Yashesh Tanna, President of the University’s INSA Society, expressed immense happiness seeing the attendees enjoy the free Holi event. The positive responses from students made it a resounding success and one of the best events to date.
Falguni Thakkar, Vice President of the INSA Society, described the event as a memorable experience, emphasizing the society’s role as a “Home Away from Home.” Seeing everyone embrace the colors and culture of Holi was a rewarding experience for the organizers.
One student, Kameron Bailey Hawsey, who had never celebrated Holi before, described the experience of learning about a friend’s culture and participating in the festivities as unique and beautiful.
Urja Shah, another student, expressed how the Holi celebration brought a burst of joy and a sense of togetherness, making it feel like a piece of home on campus for Indian students. The event was lauded for creating unforgettable memories and fostering a sense of community.
The event also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, showcasing the University’s commitment to creating a sustainable, equitable, and healthier society through events like these.
