DP World, a global leader in port operations, has been awarded two prestigious accolades at the 2024 SEAL Business Sustainability Awards. These awards recognize DP World’s commitment to sustainable business practices, innovation, and leadership in the industry.
One of the awards, the Environmental Initiative Award, was presented to DP World Santos for their groundbreaking work in reusing waste material for energy instead of sending it to a landfill. This initiative showcases the company’s dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Additionally, DP World was lauded for their development of BOXBAY, an automated, safe, and eco-friendly high-bay storage container system. The SEAL Sustainable Innovation Award acknowledges BOXBAY’s potential to revolutionize container stacking, organization, and movement, significantly reducing carbon emissions at terminals.
The innovative BOXBAY project was a collaboration between DP World and German industrial engineering specialists SMS group, aimed at addressing key challenges in container port logistics while meeting efficiency and environmental targets.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman, and CEO of DP World Group, expressed his gratitude for receiving both awards, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainable practices. He highlighted the success of DP World Santos in Brazil, where 100% of waste generated at the port is reused through circular economy principles and smart design. Sulayem also underscored the importance of BOXBAY technology in transforming container port logistics for enhanced efficiency and sustainability.
In addition to these achievements, DP World recently partnered with Asian Terminals Inc. to launch the Tanza Barge Terminal in Cavite, the Philippines, further expanding its footprint in the region. The company continues to drive innovation and sustainability in the maritime industry, setting new benchmarks for environmental stewardship and operational excellence.
