The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging recently held its 22nd annual ‘Celebrate Arts & Aging’ Exhibition, featuring over 160 artists showcasing their creativity through various mediums such as photography, paintings, collages, and drawings. The exhibition highlights the joy and engagement that creative practices bring to older adults, with this year’s signature artist being the 100-year-old Philip Cohn, who continues to paint daily.
Aligned with the theme of Older Americans Month, ‘Powered by Connection,’ the exhibition emphasizes the artists’ connections to people and nature. Artists such as Salvador Pereira, Jym Paris, and Elizabeth Richburg-Durand expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to showcase their work. The event takes place at three locations: the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Parkway Central Location, South Philadelphia Older Adult Center, and Center on the Hill in Chestnut Hill. Additionally, the exhibit is available for viewing virtually on PCACares.org/art.
The exhibition has garnered attention from various individuals and organizations, with Suzanna Urminska, Curator of Exhibits at the Parkway Central Library, highlighting the connection between the artwork and the library’s services. The exhibition will run through May 31, providing a platform for older adults to share their creativity and talent with the community. The event was also featured on 6abc’s Art of Aging segment, showcasing the impact of creativity and art on older adults.
