The University of Southern Indiana Art and Design Department is teaming up with the Evansville African American Museum to present the Black Art Workshop and Exhibition at the McCutchan Art Center/Pace Galleries in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center. The workshop event is scheduled from Friday, June 28 to Sunday, June 30, while the exhibition will be open from Monday, June 24 to Friday, August 30.
The workshop features presentations from four guest artists: Lunden King, Ayinde Rochon, Matthew Fields, and Kenneth Randle. According to Tory Schendel-Vyvoda, Curator of the Evansville African American Museum, the goal of the workshop is to provide a dedicated space for the representation and mentoring of Black artists in the region. The initiative addresses the lack of venues exclusively showcasing Black artists in Evansville, aligning with the mission of the Evansville African American Museum.
This event is open to the public free of charge, but registration is required. Pre-registration is available from Monday, March 11 to Monday, March 18, with community registration open from Tuesday, March 19 to Friday, June 14. BIPOC participants are required to pre-register as part of the Indiana Humanities Grant.
