Hillside Hope Assembly Exceeds Goals in Support of Local Foster Care Initiatives
In a commendable display of community solidarity, Hillside Hope Assembly recently launched the “Foster the Love for Foster Care Backpack” initiative, aimed at providing essential support to children entering the foster care system. This mission responds to a pressing need within the region, as children are often removed from their homes due to situations of abuse or neglect, frequently having to leave belongings behind and arriving at foster homes with little more than a trash bag for their possessions.
The backpack initiative was designed to furnish these vulnerable children with essential items that can provide comfort and a sense of security during a tumultuous transition. Each backpack is equipped with critical supplies, including a toothbrush, a blanket, a stuffed animal, a sleep shirt, a water bottle, and basic school supplies. Originally, Hillside Hope Assembly set out to assemble 25 backpacks for the local Health and Human Services (HHS) department. However, through the generosity of the congregation, local businesses, and the wider Cass County community, the initiative exceeded expectations, ultimately resulting in the assembly of 30 backpacks.
These backpacks are intended as a continuous resource for the Department of Human Services, which oversees not only Cass County but also Audubon and Adams Counties. This ongoing effort highlights the assembly’s commitment to supporting children in need and ensuring that resources are available year-round, rather than just during specific request periods.
