The University of Hawaii at Hilo is gearing up to host a series of cultural enrichment events in celebration of the 2024 Merrie Monarch Festival. These events are open to the public and will run through Friday, April 5. Among the highlights of the celebration are a stunning Hawaiian quilt exhibition, live music performances, and workshops on traditional practices like lei making, hula, and cultural protocols.
Attendees can look forward to screenings of documentary films featuring the works of Hawaiian filmmakers. The University will also offer free live broadcast viewings at the University Classroom Building and the Campus Center, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the festivities. Additionally, there will be cultural activities and delicious Hawaiian food for everyone to enjoy.
Most of the events will be held at the Imiloa Astronomy Center, located on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Other activities are scheduled at Campus Center Plaza and the Mookini Library’s veranda.
