Cook Children’s Medical Center to Begin Construction on .9 Million Parking Garage in Fort Worth
Cook Children’s Health Care System is set to embark on a significant expansion of its Fort Worth campus with the upcoming construction of a .9 million parking garage. This project marks the initial phase of a broader development effort aimed at enhancing pediatric healthcare services in North Texas. Construction is slated to commence on April 1, 2026, on a site located at the intersection of 8th and Terrell Avenues.
The new parking structure will cover an impressive 309,000 square feet and is designed to accommodate up to 504 vehicles. It will also feature a basement level that includes a data center and a loading dock, which are critical for the operational efficiency of the facility. Eline deBruijn Wiggins, the communications manager for Cook Children’s, emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “The Cook Children’s West Garage will provide easily accessible parking, thereby better supporting our patients and their families.”
This parking garage is not merely a standalone project but is part of a comprehensive ten-year master plan that aims to expand and modernize the Cook Children’s campus. Central to this vision is the planned construction of the West Tower, a massive 760,000-square-foot medical building that will introduce an expanded pediatric intensive care unit, additional operating rooms, and upgraded imaging services. Furthermore, the Cook Children’s Heart Center is expected to undergo a redesign, further enhancing the array of services available to pediatric patients.
The need for this expansion is underscored by the increasing demand for specialized pediatric healthcare in the region. As one of the key players in the Medical District, Cook Children’s is working alongside several other major healthcare systems, including JPS Health Network, UT Southwestern, Baylor Scott & White Health, Medical City Fort Worth, and Texas Health Resources, all of which are expanding their services to better meet the needs of the community.
