We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym Opens New Location in Lakewood to Support Neurodiverse Children
On July 26, a new location of We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym will open in Lakewood, TX, aiming to serve children with diverse needs, particularly those who are neurodiverse. Owned by local residents Courtney and Bernardo Castaneda, this facility promises to offer a safe, engaging environment for children to play, learn, and grow.
The Castaneda family, East Dallas residents for over a decade, were inspired to establish this gym after recognizing a shortage of local resources for children with learning differences. “It’s really challenging driving to distant locations like Addison to find suitable facilities where kids can expend energy and explore,” Courtney Castaneda remarked. Their quest for a better place led them to discover We Rock the Spectrum, a national chain known for its inclusive approach to play and therapy.
We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym provides an array of features designed to cater to the physical and sensory needs of children. The gym includes a rock climbing wall, trampoline, sensory swings, a zip slider, and designated spaces for arts and crafts. Additionally, there are separate play areas for toddlers and teenagers, ensuring a tailored experience for different age groups. The facility also offers local therapists the option to rent therapy rooms, further extending its support for the community.
Available for play seven days a week, the gym operates on a pass system where caregivers can pay for open play sessions. Children can enjoy a range of activities while caregivers take a moment for themselves. “Parents can drop off their kids for two hours, supervised by our dedicated staff—it’s not daycare, but it provides much-needed respite,” explained Castaneda.
Creating a welcoming atmosphere for both neurotypical and neurodiverse children is a core mission of the gym. “Many play spaces require children to adhere to strict rules, but here it’s about flexibility—kids can play freely, burn off energy, and become more comfortable socializing,” she emphasized.
In addition to providing physical space for play, We Rock the Spectrum aims to be a resource for parents. The facility will host workshops, including educational sessions like “Taming Tantrums,” to help parents navigate the challenges of raising children with unique needs. “We want to ensure that families know we are here as a resource, ready to assist them with any questions or concerns they may face,” Castaneda stated.
Located at 7328 Gaston Ave, Suite 130, We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. This new venture stands as a promising addition to the Lakewood community, offering both play and support for families striving to enhance their children’s development in an inclusive environment. By providing these vital resources, the gym seeks to empower families, encourage socialization, and foster resilience within the community.
