AdventHealth Hendersonville Welcomes Laura M. Sullivan to Dedicated Neonatal Care Team

Asheville, N.C., April 21, 2025 – AdventHealth Hendersonville is pleased to announce that Laura M. Sullivan, MSN, APRN, NNP-BC, has joined its esteemed care team at The Baby Place. Bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in neonatal medicine, Sullivan will serve as a hospitalist dedicated to the care of the most vulnerable infants in the community.

Sullivan’s career in neonatal nursing spans over two decades, during which she has developed profound expertise in managing the delicate health needs of newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). A proud graduate of the University of Southern Colorado with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, she further advanced her education by earning a Master of Science degree as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner from Regis University in Colorado. Her credentials are complemented by over a decade of hands-on experience caring for critically ill infants.

Before her current role, Sullivan was employed at Prisma Health-Bryan Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Greenville, South Carolina. At this Level III NICU, she provided essential care for preterm infants from as early as 22 weeks gestation. Her responsibilities included post-surgical care and the facilitation of interdisciplinary services aimed at ensuring holistic care for both mothers and their newborns—a practice she believes is vital to the nurturing of these tiny patients.

“I try to approach patients with kindness in my hands,” Sullivan remarked, emphasizing the importance of empathy in her practice. “I work with babies. They can feel your vibe, especially through the hands.” Sullivan’s philosophy of whole-person care underscores her commitment to understanding the individual needs of families, which she considers crucial for effective healing.

AdventHealth Hendersonville is in the process of building a new Level II NICU designed to enhance inpatient pediatric care closer to home. This upcoming facility, expected to open later this year, will feature five beds, including three private rooms and two stabilization bays. The design prioritizes family interaction and privacy, allowing parents to be more present in their infants’ care during critical moments.

Sullivan’s role is pivotal as the organization seeks to expand its capabilities for treating sick or premature newborns. The newly constructed NICU will enable AdventHealth to accept mothers as early as 32 weeks of gestation, significantly improving access to specialized care for families in the region.

Outside of her professional commitments, Sullivan is an enthusiast of the great outdoors. She and her husband share their home with two dogs, Mila and Brian, and enjoy activities like cooking and hiking together.
