Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and Rio Tinto, a prominent dry bulk shipper, have come together to strengthen efforts towards decarbonizing maritime transportation. This Partnership Agreement, in addition to their existing commitment to the DOO initiative, signifies a collective push towards sustainability in the industry.
The DOO programme initiated by Rio Tinto focuses on enhancing safety and crew welfare within the dry bulk business sector, reflecting a shared value with MOL. The collaboration between MOL and Rio Tinto aims to prioritize improving operational and technical efficiency while also delving into potential collaborations involving alternative shipping fuels based on their respective expertise.
Noteworthy advancements by MOL in the realm of sustainable shipping include the recent bunkering service conducted by the LNG bunkering vessel Brassavola for an LNG-fuelled bulk carrier at the Port of Singapore. Additionally, a new wind condition measurement device trial on the Tokyo–Fukuoka line was launched in partnership with Metro Weather Co., Ltd., showcasing MOL’s ongoing efforts towards innovation and sustainability in maritime operations.
