Addressing Diaper Needs: The America First Charitable Foundation’s Ongoing Commitment
In the United States, approximately one in three families faces significant challenges in affording diapers for their infants, leading to alarming consequences for child well-being and hygiene. A troubling statistic reveals that some infants may endure prolonged periods in a single diaper, sometimes for an entire day, despite the fact that babies typically require around a dozen changes daily. Unfortunately, government assistance programs such as the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program do not provide coverage for diaper expenses, leaving many families in precarious situations.
In response to this pressing need, the America First Charitable Foundation has launched a dedicated Diaper Drive, which aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by families in need. This initiative has proven effective, providing support to thousands of children each year across multiple states. In 2024, the foundation marked a pivotal achievement by donating an impressive total of 392,759 diapers, underscoring its commitment to addressing the diaper gap.
Dave Nellis, the Director of Public Relations for the America First Charitable Foundation, emphasizes the organization’s mission: “We believe that every family should have access to basic needs and necessities, which is achievable through this program.” By partnering with local organizations such as the Arizona Diaper Bank, Utah Diaper Bank, and Baby’s Bounty of Nevada, the foundation is able to expand its reach, distributing essential supplies throughout its membership regions in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah.
The foundation encourages community participation in its efforts. All members, employees, and the general public are invited to contribute by donating new packages or boxes of diapers. Donations can be dropped off at any America First branch through May 31, 2025. For those unable to participate in physical donations, monetary contributions are also welcomed. Individuals can donate online at americafirst.com/donate, with a commitment that 100 percent of all financial donations will be allocated directly to the purchase of diapers.
