RSABI is looking for 2 trainee trustees to join its board

The Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RSABI) is on the lookout for two trainee trustees to join its board. This charitable organization offers emotional, financial, and practical support to individuals in the Scottish agriculture sector. The RSABI is specifically seeking applications from individuals aged between 25 and 45 in an effort to engage more young people at the board level.

The selected trainee trustees will embark on a year-long program starting in July, during which they will shadow existing trustees, participate in board meetings, committees, and staff meetings. They will also receive mentorship and support from senior staff and board members, gaining valuable insight into the role of a charity trustee.

According to RSABI, trustees play a crucial role in guiding the charity and ensuring it effectively supports those in Scottish agriculture. This recruitment drive follows the successful completion of two previous trainee trustees within RSABI. Chair of RSABI, Jimmy McLean, expressed enthusiasm for welcoming younger volunteers to the board, highlighting the opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause and enhance one’s skills and CV.

The trainee trustees will undergo a 12-month program focused on building confidence, skills, and understanding of charity board dynamics. While they will not have voting rights, they will actively participate in meetings, engage with staff, and make meaningful contributions to RSABI’s operations. Candidates must commit to the full program, which entails an average of one day per month. Meetings may be held both virtually and in-person, with RSABI covering reasonable expenses for travel.

This initiative presents a unique opportunity for passionate individuals interested in making a difference in the agricultural community and gaining valuable experience in the charity sector. If you meet the criteria and are eager to contribute to RSABI’s mission, consider applying to become a trainee trustee today.
