An 85-year-old cabinet manufacturer based in Sellersburg, Haas Cabinet Co., has announced its plans to close down this summer, impacting 119 workers. The company, founded in 1939 by Carlos Haas, will be shuttering its operations without providing a specific reason for the closure. Todd Haas, the grandson of the founder and current President of the company, confirmed the closure in a statement to Woodworking Network.
The Sellersburg facility, spanning 350,000 square feet, will see layoffs occurring in phases between June 27 and July 11, as indicated in the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification submitted to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The affected employees, who are not part of a union and do not possess bumping rights, will be offered COBRA benefits by the company.
While no details were disclosed regarding the future of the assembly plant and warehouse in Speed, north of Sellersburg, Haas Cabinet Co. did not indicate any plans to shut down these facilities. Despite numerous requests for additional information, the company did not respond to inquiries made by Inside INdiana Business.
