Talented young musicians from around the world come to Aberdeen to play with academy pipe band

Aberdeen is set to welcome over 200 talented young musicians from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East this weekend as they gather in the Granite City to participate in a cross-cultural music festival. Organized by the International School Aberdeen (ISA), the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS) Middle & High School Honor Bands Festival 2024 will bring together young performers from 20 international schools.

The musicians will kick off the festivities on Thursday, March 14th, at ISA, where they will engage in three days of rehearsals and events leading up to a Gala Concert in the school’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Saturday, March 16th, at 7pm. The concert will feature each ensemble performing a Scottish piece with the Alford Academy Pipe Band, and it is free to attend for the public.

Among the talented performers are three Aberdeen students who will shine in the Gala Concert. Rose Veitch will showcase her clarinet skills in the Middle School Honor Band, Karim Kudhr will impress with his baritone saxophone performance in the High School Honor Band, and Matilda Brazier will have a special vocal feature in ‘Loch Lomond’ with the Middle School Honor Band.

Kent Walter, ISA Instrumental Music Teacher, expressed his excitement about bringing this celebration of young musical talent to Aberdeen. He highlighted the pride the school feels in showcasing both local and international musicians. Head of School, Nick Little, emphasized ISA’s commitment to nurturing young talent and uniting a global community of performers.

ISA has been a member of AMIS since 2000 and has previously hosted 13 festivals with the organization. By collaborating with AMIS, ISA aims to support music programs in international schools worldwide. The upcoming Gala Concert promises to be an uplifting evening of traditional Scots music with an international twist, welcoming both school communities and the general public.
