Delta Airlines and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity Collaborate to Build Homes for Families in Need

In a significant community-building initiative, Delta Air Lines and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity have joined forces to fulfill the dreams of homeownership for four deserving families this fall. This collaborative effort saw over 800 Delta volunteers come together to construct new homes in Browns Mill Village, a designated community that aims to support affordable housing development. The project is part of a broader vision supported by several corporations and foundations, including notable grants from The Delta Air Lines Foundation, which seeks to complete an entire Habitat subdivision over time.

To date, Delta has played an instrumental role in the development of 12 homes within Browns Mill Village. When considering their broader impact, the airline has either built or rehabilitated a remarkable total of 287 homes in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity since their partnership began in 1995. This ongoing commitment underscores Delta’s dedication to fostering strong, stable communities through the provision of affordable housing.

Emmakate Young, Delta’s head of Brand, emphasized the importance of their mission, stating, “At Delta, our endeavor to connect the world creates opportunities, fosters understanding, and expands horizons. Becoming a homeowner is not easy, and as it becomes more challenging for families in Atlanta, I take pride in the fact that Delta employees have had a meaningful hand in this transformative process.” Young expressed deep appreciation for the hard work and determination exhibited by the new homeowners, who have navigated the intricate path towards homeownership.

One of the new homeowners, Zhonvieve, expressed her gratitude for the initiative, stating, “Homeownership to me means safety, community, and building tradition. Delta and its employees were enthusiastic and eager to assist. I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for having a safe environment to raise my daughter.”

Rosalyn Merrick, President and CEO of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, highlighted the invaluable partnership, affirming, “Delta is the partner every organization dreams of. Their dedication reflects a profound commitment to our mission of empowering and uplifting generations through affordable homeownership.”

Since the inception of this partnership, Delta volunteers have participated in various projects across 13 countries, firmly believing in the critical role that affordable housing plays in fostering resilient communities. The homes built through this initiative are not just structures but are integral to providing families with the stability and security they need. Additionally, the process emphasizes the importance of sustainability, educating volunteers and homeowners alike about sustainable practices that contribute to a better future.

As the need for affordable housing continues to grow, Delta Air Lines and Atlanta Habitat for Humanity’s partnership shines as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the profound impact that community engagement and corporate responsibility can have on improving lives.
