CenterPoint Energy Foundation Grants 0,000 to Youth First, Inc. for Mental Health Initiatives in Local Schools

Evansville, IN — The CenterPoint Energy Foundation has announced a significant contribution of 0,000 to Youth First, Inc., an organization dedicated to enhancing mental health and well-being among students. This funding aims to bolster efforts in eight partner schools located across Gibson, Posey, and Vanderburgh counties.

This financial infusion marks a critical step towards addressing mental health challenges that youth face in educational settings. The grant, in conjunction with other funding sources, will empower Youth First to implement its comprehensive school-based student assistance program. This initiative is designed to provide direct support to students, addressing a broad spectrum of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and behavioral challenges.

The schools benefitting from this funding include Washington Middle School and McGary Middle School in Vanderburgh County, North Elementary School and West Elementary School in Posey County, and four schools within the Wood Memorial district in Gibson County—Wood Memorial High School, Wood Memorial Middle School, Wood Memorial Intermediate School, and Wood Memorial Primary School. By reaching these institutions, the program targets a diverse demographic, ensuring that students from various backgrounds receive the support they need.

Youth First has been a pivotal player in promoting mental health awareness and prevention in schools across southwestern Indiana. Their programs not only provide immediate assistance to students facing crises but also implement preventive measures aimed at fostering resilience and emotional intelligence among the youth. These efforts are particularly crucial, as recent studies indicate a growing need for mental health resources in schools. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated feelings of isolation and anxiety amongst students, making programs like those offered by Youth First more relevant than ever.

With this grant, Youth First also aims to expand its family and community prevention programs, which not only support students but also engage parents and community members in a collaborative approach to mental well-being. This holistic model recognizes that mental health challenges are multifaceted and require the involvement of the entire community for effective resolution.

The partnership between CenterPoint Energy Foundation and Youth First, Inc. underscores a broader commitment to fostering healthier educational environments. As mental health continues to gain attention as a critical area of concern in academic settings, initiatives like this represent essential steps toward ensuring that students receive the support they need to thrive both academically and emotionally.
