The City of Alexandria is hosting the 2024 Eco-City Festival, a free event aimed at celebrating the environment while providing fun and educational activities for the community. The festival offers a range of activities, including test driving electric vehicles and e-bikes, engaging with city departments through games, and enjoying food from local food trucks.
Key event details include:
– Date: Saturday, May 11
– Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
– Location: Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC), 5000 Dawes Ave.
Getting to the festival is easy with the DASH system, with free rides available on Line 31 from the King Street Metro station to NVCC. Additionally, there will be express shuttles from the metro station to the event every 15 minutes. For those who prefer biking, a bike valet service will be available on-site.
Eco-City Alexandria is a strategic effort to promote sustainability within the city by harmonizing natural resources with existing policies and community engagement. Visitors to the festival can also receive a free tree seedling to plant in their yards as part of Alexandria’s 275th-anniversary celebration. This initiative aims to plant 275 trees across the city to help mitigate stormwater runoff and reduce the heat island effect.
