Skanska, a construction company based in Sweden, has been granted an 1 million contract to convert the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal into a key offshore wind port. This transformative project is a result of Skanska finalizing an agreement with SBMT Asset & LLC.

The plan is for Skanska to develop the marine terminal into one of the largest offshore wind hubs in the United States. The company’s efforts will also support the development of Empire Wind, a large-scale offshore wind farm project being undertaken by Equinor, located approximately 15 to 30 miles off the coast of New York. Preconstruction work commenced in January 2023, with construction activities under this contract expected to continue through 2026, as per Skanska.

This initiative marks a significant step in the expansion of clean energy infrastructure in the region, positioning the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal as a crucial asset in the advancement of offshore wind energy in the US.
