“Eutelsat OneWeb LEO aids Q-KON in improving digital banking services in southern Africa”

Eutelsat Group and Q-KON have recently revealed the successful launch of multiple digital banks in South Africa on Eutelsat OneWeb’s LEO service. This move has brought about numerous benefits for both bank staff and customers, providing them with secure and consistent connectivity needed for real-time transmission of financial data and account information.

The use of the LEO satellite service has enabled the delivery of various operational and customer-facing processes, including intranet, SD-WANs, branch online management, data backhauls, staff and customer Wi-Fi, and ATM services. Q-KON’s integration of Eutelsat OneWeb LEO satellite connectivity into its Twoobii Smart Satellite Services in 2023 has paved the way for the successful rollout of these services, which will continue in the months ahead.

In addressing Africa’s unique connectivity and infrastructure challenges, Q-KON’s bespoke approach with Twoobii Smart Satellite Services, coupled with Eutelsat OneWeb’s low latency and high-speed offering, has proven to be effective. Dawie de Wet, Group CEO of Q-KON, expressed confidence in the utility of the LEO installations in financial services scenarios and anticipated extending this connectivity solution to more branches in southern Africa.

Cyril Dujardin, Co-President of Eutelsat Group’s Connectivity Business Unit, Eutelsat OneWeb, emphasized the positive impact of the LEO network services on local businesses in South Africa. He commended Q-KON as a valuable partner and looked forward to expanding services to more businesses throughout the country.
