We Rock the Spectrum: A New Sensory Gym for All Abilities Set to Open in Sioux Falls

February 14, 2025

A groundbreaking facility designed to cater to children of all abilities, including those on the autism spectrum, is scheduled to open in Sioux Falls this March. The facility, named We Rock the Spectrum, aims to provide a sensory-friendly environment filled with therapeutic play equipment and activities tailored to meet the diverse needs of its young patrons.

We Rock the Spectrum offers a unique approach to play that focuses on inclusivity and accessibility. The gym will feature specialized sensory toys, swings, slides, trampolines, and quiet areas, allowing children to engage in play that is conducive to various sensory processing styles. Tanya Davis, the owner and a mother of two, emphasizes the importance of bridging therapy and play. “We want to help young people continue their therapy progress when they’re not at therapy. You’ll find a lot of similar equipment in our gym as you would in an occupational therapy center,” said Davis. “We’re not trying to replace that therapy but rather give kids and families more opportunities to thrive.”

Davis’s motivation to create this space stems from her personal experiences with her children. She recounted the challenges faced during the winter months, explaining how it was difficult to find suitable outlets for her son’s energy, leading to sleep disturbances and behavioral issues. This realization inspired her to develop a facility where all children, particularly those who are neurodivergent, would feel welcomed, accepted, and understood in a playful environment.

We Rock the Spectrum is part of a national franchise that originated in California. Founded by a mother of a child with special needs, the franchise has expanded rapidly, now encompassing nearly 180 locations in 34 states and eight countries. The Sioux Falls location will be situated at 3224 E. 10th St. within the Dacotah Towne Centre, conveniently located east of Hy-Vee.

In addition to the gym’s therapeutic focus, the facility will include rooms designated for private therapy sessions, arts and crafts, and spaces for families to celebrate special occasions. Davis aims to foster a supportive community where families can connect. “Parenting can be challenging, and winters can be long. We want to build a community where everyone feels like they can bring their kids, learn, and have a good time,” she stated.

To make the gym accessible, We Rock the Spectrum will offer various membership and punch card options, with open play sessions priced at for two hours, and a reduced rate of for additional siblings. The establishment of We Rock the Spectrum marks a significant step towards enhancing the recreational options for families in Sioux Falls, sparking excitement and anticipation for its opening in the weeks to come.
