Claremont McKenna College (CMC) recently hosted its annual Family Weekend, an event that welcomed a diverse group of parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends to campus for an immersive experience into the life of a CMC student. The event, held under the motto “Join in the Journey,” provided attendees with numerous opportunities to engage with the CMC community, fostering connections and enhancing family ties within the academic environment.
This year’s Family Weekend took place amid a vibrant atmosphere filled with activities designed to highlight the educational journey of students. Family members participated in attending classes alongside their students, providing them with insight into the rigorous academic standards and collaborative learning environments that CMC is known for. Additionally, parents were invited to share meals at the Collins Dining Hall, where they could interact with faculty and fellow families, enhancing their understanding of campus life.
One of the highlights of the weekend was a Town Hall Q&A session featuring President Hiram Chodosh, which was expertly moderated by Dahlia Jabro P’26, the current President of the CMC Parent Network Board. This session not only allowed for direct communication between the institution’s leadership and families but also served as a platform for addressing various concerns, celebrating achievements, and discussing the College’s future initiatives.
Family Weekend also took time to recognize those who have made significant contributions to the campus community, particularly veterans. Events aimed at honoring these individuals underscored CMC’s commitment to inclusivity and appreciation for service members. Furthermore, the weekend featured interactive learning sessions tailored for families, offering insight into the academic programs and extracurricular opportunities available to students.
Another significant moment of the weekend was the presentation of the Jil Stark ’58 GP’11 Parent Volunteer Award, bestowed upon Carmen Amaya P’25. This award recognizes the invaluable contributions of CMC parents who actively support the College’s mission, reinforcing the vital role families play in enhancing the educational experience at CMC.
With a full schedule of activities, including various CMS Athletics events, Family Weekend 2025 successfully fostered a sense of camaraderie and connection among students, families, and the broader CMC community. Events like these not only celebrate the College’s academic rigor but also strengthen the relationships that are crucial to the student experience at Claremont McKenna College.
