The South by Southwest festival is making its way to London next year, setting up shop in Shoreditch for the first ever UK version of this renowned international event. Taking place in and around Brick Lane’s Truman Brewery, the festival will combine music, films, and technology just like its American counterpart.
Initially launched in 1987, SXSW has grown into a massive annual gathering that attracts speakers ranging from Barack Obama and Joe Biden to the Duchess of Sussex, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steven Spielberg. It has also remained committed to its musical roots, helping to kickstart the careers of artists like Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, and Stormzy.
Scheduled to run for a week in June, the London edition will take over numerous venues in Shoreditch, transforming the area into a haven for “curious minds.” According to Managing Director Randel Bryan, the festival aims to become an annual event that offers a platform for the world’s most brilliant minds, musicians, and motivators to share their passion and vision for the future.
The programme for SXSW London is still in the works, but organizers have promised a lineup of challenging keynotes, music showcases, tech innovations, gaming, and screen experiences, along with exhibitions and immersive activities that showcase boundary-pushing visual arts, design, and fashion.
