‘RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration’ Honors The Bahamas at Disney’s Lookout Cay’

Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is set to officially open on June 10, offering a unique experience for guests of the Disney Cruise Line. As a sneak peek, we were able to witness the entertainment at Lookout Cay, including the spectacular “RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration” at the Goombay Cultural Center.

The show, which pays homage to The Bahamas, features a local Junkanoo Group that immerses guests in the vibrant festival of The Bahamas with colorful parades, music, and dancing. The highlight of the performance is an authentic Junkanoo Rush Out, where guests are encouraged to join in the lively celebration alongside iconic Disney characters like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy.

The festivities kick off with an emcee introducing the characters, followed by a captivating display of music and dance by the Junkanoo performers in elaborate costumes. The characters then mingle with the crowd, engaging guests in the celebration.

Junkanoo is a traditional festival celebrated annually in The Bahamas, Jamaica, and Belize, featuring parades, costumes, dance, and drumming. The festival typically takes place on Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, and other significant holidays.

As the performance draws to a close, the Junkanoo performers exit the stage, and the characters bid farewell to the audience. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy don Bahamas-inspired costumes designed by Theodore Elyett for the occasion.
