Norfolk Heritage Open Days is making a comeback from Friday, September 6, to Sunday, September 15. Local individuals, organizations, sites, venues, and charities in Norfolk are encouraged to participate in this unique and free festival. This annual event provides an opportunity for everyone to share their stories and celebrate local history with visitors from all over the country.
Heritage Open Days (HODs) is the largest free festival of heritage and culture in England. It attracts thousands of attendees each year who explore various events, learn about the history of England, uncover stories behind beloved buildings, and discover unsung heroes. The upcoming 2024 edition marks the 30th anniversary of Heritage Open Days, honoring both ordinary and extraordinary tales.
Coordinated by The Forum, Norfolk Heritage Open Days has seen significant success in the past. Norwich had the largest Heritage Open Days program in the country in 2023, showcasing the rich history and passion for the City of Stories. This year, Norfolk is excited to welcome new organizers from across the county, as well as returning favorites.
Katie Ellis, the Events Producer for Norfolk Heritage Open Days, is looking forward to the fascinating stories and experiences that organizers will share with visitors this year. Participation as an organizer is free, and the event provides a platform for sharing stories and attracting more visitors than usual.
In 2023, over 310 events took place across Norfolk, drawing thousands of visitors. Organizers have the flexibility to hold a single event or open their doors throughout the week. Demand for Norfolk Heritage Open Days is high, with many visitors attending multiple events and sites throughout the week.

The deadline for registration is Sunday, May 26, for events to be included in the Norfolk listings brochure, which reaches 25,000 readers in the region.
This year’s theme for Heritage Open Days is Routes – Networks – Connections, highlighting the historical movement of people and ideas. Organizers have the freedom to submit events related to the theme or something entirely different.
