UPMC Expands Women’s Healthcare Services in Washington County
UPMC, a leading healthcare provider based in Pittsburgh, has officially expanded its renowned Magee-Womens services to UPMC Washington, significantly enhancing access to advanced women’s healthcare throughout Washington County and its neighboring regions. The expansion, heralded on January 7, 2024, reaffirms UPMC’s commitment to delivering high-quality medical services closer to home for local communities.
“This is more than an expansion; it’s a promise kept,” asserted Brook Ward, president of UPMC Washington and UPMC Greene, during the announcement. “We told our community we would bring UPMC’s signature services here, and today, UPMC Magee-Womens becomes part of Washington’s story.” This initiative follows UPMC’s earlier pledge made during its affiliation with the Washington Health System, which became official on June 1, 2024. As part of this strategic partnership, UPMC committed 0 million over the next decade for the enhancement of clinical services and infrastructure, transforming UPMC Washington, UPMC Greene, and their associated outpatient facilities into a regional healthcare destination.
UPMC’s objective with this expansion is to establish UPMC Washington as a hub for specialized medical care. The inclusion of UPMC Magee-Womens aligns well with the existing lineup of elite service lines at the facility, which also encompasses UPMC Children’s Hospital, UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute, UPMC Orthopaedic Institute, and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. This diverse range of services is set to improve patient outcomes and accessibility.
Nationally recognized for excellence in women’s health, UPMC Magee-Womens is home to one of the largest obstetrics programs in the United States. The integration of these specialized services into UPMC Washington means that local families can now receive critical healthcare services—such as gynecologic oncology, maternal-fetal medicine, and minimally invasive surgery—without needing to travel to Pittsburgh, delivering both convenience and comprehensive care.
“Bringing UPMC Magee-Womens to Washington is about answering the needs of our community and supporting the incredible teams who care for our patients every day,” commented Joel Yuhas, executive vice president of UPMC and president of the UPMC Health Services Division. “This investment not only ensures women and families have access to advanced care close to home but also empowers our clinicians with the resources and expertise to deliver the best possible outcomes.”
Additionally, this partnership emphasizes a patient-centric approach by integrating UPMC Magee-Womens’ clinical standards with the trusted local healthcare teams already in place. This strategic alignment is designed to minimize the burden of travel for patients, enhance clinical outcomes, and address the unique healthcare needs of Washington County residents—marking a significant advancement in regional healthcare availability.
The expansion of UPMC’s Magee-Womens services is seen as a pivotal development in women’s healthcare, reflecting an ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in patient care, ultimately benefiting the health and wellbeing of the broader community.
