China’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, NIO, is set to unveil its new ET7 model this month, powered by an impressive 150 kWh semi-solid state battery pack. Pre-orders for the luxury EV will begin on April 16, with NIO organizing an endurance challenge to test the vehicle’s capabilities and see if it can surpass its current range record of 650 miles (1044 km).

The official debut of the 2024 NIO ET7 is scheduled for April 25 at the Beijing Auto Show. To build anticipation, NIO has announced an “endurance challenge” to push the limits of the new electric sedan and potentially set a new range record.

NIO’s founder and CEO, William Li, previously tested the ET7 equipped with the 150 kWh semi-solid state EV battery, showcasing its capabilities during a 14-hour live-streamed event. Li managed to cover an impressive 1,044 km (~650 miles) in intelligent drive mode for 92% of the trip, with additional charge remaining for further mileage.

The endurance challenge to break the existing range record will commence on April 16, coinciding with the opening of pre-orders for the ET7. Three groups of participants will embark on different routes in a bid to challenge the boundaries of the 150 kWh battery pack, with the event live-streamed to showcase NIO’s commitment to advancing electric vehicle technology.

NIO’s recent focus on innovation and production has seen the launch of seven updated models earlier this year, with the ET7 being the final model in the 2024 lineup to receive a refresh. The company has shared new images of the ET7, highlighting its sleek exterior design and enhanced interior features such as rear passenger screens.

In a significant stride towards sustainability, NIO has commenced mass production of its semi-solid state EV batteries, further solidifying its position in the electric vehicle market. The recent increase in deliveries for NIO’s refreshed models signals a promising outlook for the company, emphasizing its dedication to advancing the EV industry.
