Panola College Secures 0,000 Grant to Enhance Student Success Initiatives
Panola College, located in Carthage, Texas, has been awarded a significant grant of 0,000 as part of the Student Success Acceleration Program 2.0. This initiative, administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, focuses on strategically addressing barriers that hinder student retention, re-enrollment, and the completion of academic credentials.
The funding will primarily benefit the Return to Earn Initiative, which aims to assist students who have previously left college without obtaining a degree or certification. This program offers a tailored approach, combining personalized advising, financial support, academic services, and an array of essential wrap-around services designed to facilitate student success and enhance educational outcomes.
Molly Skeen, the Director of Advising at Panola College, expressed enthusiasm regarding the grant’s potential impact on the college community. “Student Services is thrilled to receive this grant, as it enables the College to make a meaningful impact on student success,” she stated. “With these resources, we can eliminate financial and logistical obstacles, encourage re-engagement of students who have temporarily left college, and provide comprehensive support as they re-enroll and work towards completing their credentials.”
In alignment with its commitment to foster an inclusive educational environment, Panola College has also introduced the Pregnant & Parenting Student Support Program. This initiative is particularly designed to help students who juggle the demands of family life alongside their academic pursuits. Beginning this semester, students who are pregnant or parenting and enrolled in academic courses will be eligible to apply for financial assistance to alleviate childcare and transportation costs.
“The college is excited to provide this crucial financial assistance for childcare and transportation to our pregnant and parenting students,” Skeen added. “This effort is vital as we recognize the unique challenges these students face in balancing family and educational responsibilities. Panola College is dedicated to improving student retention rates, ensuring persistence, and ultimately increasing credential attainment, thus reinforcing our mission to empower all students through education.”
By leveraging this grant, Panola College is poised to make ambitious strides in its efforts to support and retain students, particularly those facing diverse challenges amid their academic journey. The initiatives funded by this grant not only aim to benefit individual students but also contribute significantly to the broader educational landscape in Texas, reflecting a commitment to higher education as a pathway to socio-economic advancement.
