The ARCS Foundation, San Diego Chapter, which is led by women, is set to host its annual Scientist of the Year fundraiser to honor a prominent local scientist. This year, the honoree will be Terry Sejnowski, PhD, a globally renowned computer scientist and computational neuroscientist. Dr. Sejnowski’s groundbreaking work on neural networks has paved the way for the current machine learning and AI revolution. As the head of the Computational Neurobiology Laboratory at the Salk Institute and holder of the Frances Crick Chair, he is also a distinguished professor at UC San Diego’s School of Biological Sciences and co-director of the Institute for Neural Computation.
The event will feature a celebration of science and scientists, paying tribute to this year’s 50 ARCS Scholars and distinguished alumnus Randall Kelley, PhD. Kelley, who has led data science and machine learning departments at various major corporations, will be honored alongside the scholars. Funds raised during the event will go towards supporting future ARCS scholars.
The event will take place on Saturday, April 27 at 4:00pm at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. It promises to be an inspiring evening celebrating the achievements and contributions of these outstanding individuals in the field of science.
