SmartestEnergy Australia, a subsidiary of Marubeni Corp, has recently secured 25% of the output from the 400-MW New England Stage 1 solar park in New South Wales, Australia. This deal, made with ACEN Corporation, involves an eight-year power purchase agreement (PPA) that will provide electricity to SmartestEnergy’s commercial and industrial customers across the country.
The New England Stage 1 park is just one part of a larger 720-MW New England photovoltaic project within the state’s Renewable Energy Zone. With one million solar panels and plans for a battery energy storage facility, once fully operational, this solar complex is anticipated to generate 1,800 GWh of electricity annually. This is enough to power approximately 300,000 Australian homes, highlighting a significant contribution to sustainable energy sources.
This partnership exemplifies the growing investment in renewable energy infrastructure in the region and shows a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while transitioning toward a more sustainable energy system. The integration of a battery energy storage facility with the solar plant also showcases the potential for renewable energy to offer reliable and flexible power generation, supporting grid stability and the energy transition throughout Australia.
