The Port of Melbourne has announced its trade numbers for April, showing a significant year-on-year increase in container throughput, reaching a total of 270,000 TEU.
In April 2023, full container import volumes (excluding Bass Strait) saw an increase compared to the previous year, with furniture, household appliances, metal manufacturers, and paperboard all surpassing last year’s levels.
Additionally, full container export volumes (excluding Bass Strait) also experienced a rise in April 2024 compared to the previous year.
The total empty container movements in April 2024 also saw an increase compared to the quantities from the previous year.
These numbers come after the Port of Melbourne reported a total container throughput of 262,250 TEU in February and a notable year-on-year rise in container throughput in March, amounting to 280,900 TEU.
