‘Collaboration Between Reddit and OpenAI’

Reddit and OpenAI have joined forces to enhance the user experience and provide valuable AI-powered features for the Reddit community. The partnership aims to make Reddit content more accessible through ChatGPT and other new products developed by OpenAI.

OpenAI will leverage Reddit’s Data API to provide real-time, structured, and unique content to users, enabling AI tools to better understand and showcase Reddit conversations. This collaboration will also allow Reddit to bring innovative AI-powered features to redditors and moderators, enhancing the platform’s overall functionality.

Brad Lightcap, COO of OpenAI, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with Reddit to enhance ChatGPT with uniquely timely and relevant information, and to explore the possibilities to enrich the Reddit experience with AI-powered features.”

Steve Huffman, Reddit Co-Founder and CEO, highlighted the importance of including Reddit in ChatGPT, stating, “Reddit has become one of the internet’s largest open archives of authentic, relevant, and always up-to-date human conversations. Including it in ChatGPT upholds our belief in a connected internet, helps people find more of what they’re looking for, and helps new audiences find community on Reddit.”

In addition to the partnership, Reddit recently published its Public Content Policy to uphold user privacy and provide guidelines for accessing public content on the platform. The collaboration with OpenAI aligns with Reddit’s commitment to privacy rights and will not change Reddit’s Data API Terms or Developer Terms, ensuring that content accessed through the API cannot be used for commercial purposes without Reddit’s approval. API access remains free for non-commercial usage under the published threshold.

Overall, the partnership between Reddit and OpenAI is a significant step towards making Reddit content more accessible, enhancing user experience, and leveraging AI technology to benefit the Reddit community.
