Penn State Lehigh Valley Academic Leader Invited to Teach at McGill University’s Esteemed Program
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Aníbal Torres, the Director of Academic Affairs at Penn State Lehigh Valley, has been extended an invitation to contribute to the Couple and Family Therapy graduate program at McGill University, a notable institution situated in Montreal, Canada. This program is recognized for its rigorous approach to training therapists, emphasizing evidence-based practices and an integrative, problem-focused perspective in family therapy.
In a statement regarding his appointment, Torres expressed his enthusiasm about engaging with leading experts in the field. “It is always exciting to join leading experts from around the world to teach the next generation of couple and family therapists,” he remarked. “McGill is doing extraordinary work, and it is an honor to be invited to speak.”
During his time on campus, Torres led two classes centered on Assessment and Practicum components of the program. His instruction aimed to enhance students’ clinical skills, encouraging reflective practice and the application of systemic theories in therapeutic scenarios. This aligns with McGill’s objective to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of modern relationships through a comprehensive understanding of contemporary theories and research.
“My career has been focused on advancing clinical training grounded in systemic and relational principles,” Torres noted. “This aligns perfectly with the goals of the McGill program.” His commitment to integrating these foundational principles into clinical training underscores the relevance of systemic theory in addressing the needs of diverse couples and families.
Aníbal Torres joined Penn State Lehigh Valley in April 2021 as the chief academic officer after serving as the dean of the School of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Society at SUNY Morrisville. Since his appointment, he has emphasized the importance of leveraging Penn State’s land-grant mission to benefit the local community and foster educational advancement.
“I am proud to represent Penn State Lehigh Valley,” Torres stated. “We are an extraordinary campus of experts, researchers, students, and educators. I am glad to have shared our story with our colleagues and friends at McGill.”
