The Morgan Library & Museum is hosting an exclusive event for Patron Circle members and above, featuring an intimate walkthrough of the exhibition “Seen Together: Acquisitions in Photography” led by Joel Smith, the Richard L. Menschel Curator and Department Head of Photography at the museum.
“Seen Together: Acquisitions in Photography” highlights over forty previously unexhibited works acquired by the Morgan Library & Museum’s Department of Photography since its establishment in 2012. The exhibition aims to build a photography collection that interacts with other collections at the museum, such as drawings, printed books, and literary manuscripts, while also drawing from diverse historical contexts and traditions to tell larger stories about the medium. The showcase includes pieces by renowned artists like Irving Penn, Diane Arbus, and Dennis Oppenheim, as well as photographs of prominent figures like Yayoi Kusama, Marcel Duchamp, and Yoko Ono.
The Morgan Library & Museum, designed by Charles McKim, is a historical museum located in New York City that continues to acquire rare materials, important music manuscripts, early children’s books, Americana, and materials from the twentieth century.
