Sports Direct owner, Frasers Group, is strengthening its board with new appointments as part of its long-term growth and Elevation Strategy. Effective February 26, Helen Wright, global chief executive of Sergio Rossi, will join as a non-executive director, while David Al-Mudallal, Frasers’ chief operating officer, and Ger Wright, managing director of sports, will become executive directors.
The company also plans to appoint Sir Jon Thompson, former chief executive of the Financial Reporting Council, as a non-executive director later in the year. Michael Murray, chief executive of Frasers Group, expressed his excitement about the new appointments and emphasized how the combined experience of the new board members will contribute to the execution of the long-term strategy.
With a background of 25 years in luxury and lifestyle consumer brands, Helen Wright brings a wealth of experience to the board, having led the turnaround of brands like Belstaff and worked with companies like Ralph Lauren, Fendi/LVMH, and Anya Hindmarch. Al-Mudallal and Ger Wright have also been instrumental in driving the success of the company’s strategy, with Al-Mudallal being a key driver of the Elevation Strategy and Ger Wright focused on omnichannel transformation in the sports division.
David Daly, chair of the board at Frasers Group, highlighted the significance of these new appointments in the company’s transformation and expressed confidence in the new board members’ leadership and expertise.
