The initiative comes at a crucial time, as recent data from the 2023-24 Oklahoma School Report Card revealed that only 18 out of 79 public schools in Oklahoma City received an A or B rating. This statistic raises concerns about the quality of education available to students in the area. “The data is concerning,” Bushey commented, highlighting the importance of early literacy in relation to long-term academic success. Research indicates that students who struggle with reading by third grade are significantly less likely to graduate high school.
