The Friends of Bayou St. John recently organized a successful “Where the Bayou Meets the Greenway: Mega-litter Cleanup!” event in partnership with the Waterway Eco Team and Friends of Lafitte Greenway as part of Love the Boot Week in Louisiana. With the help of 59 volunteers, 76 bags of litter were collected in just four hours, making a significant impact on the cleanliness of the Bayou St. John and Lafitte Greenway.
The Friends of Bayou St. John, a local nonprofit dedicated to maintaining a clean and healthy environment in the area, also announced the upcoming Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo music festival happening from May 17 to May 19. This annual festival is a key fundraiser for the organization, with all proceeds going towards the improvement and preservation of Bayou St. John.
Zoe Sullivan, the director of Development for the Friends of Bayou St. John, expressed pride in the collaborative effort with partners and volunteers to enhance the beauty of the Bayou and Greenway. Susan Russell, the executive director of Keep Louisiana Beautiful, commended the businesses, governments, schools, families, and individuals who participated in Love the Boot Week, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in tackling the state’s litter issue.
Keep Louisiana Beautiful will soon release an outcomes report detailing the impact of cleanup and beautification events in the state.
