‘Yonkers Arts Debuts Two Exhibitions’

Yonkers Arts, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering a creative community in the city of Yonkers, recently opened two landmark exhibitions as part of Yonkers Arts Weekend. The event took place at The Carpet Mills Arts District, spanning both The Mills at 222 Lake Ave. and the Yonkers Arts Project Space.

The exhibitions featured the 15th Annual Yonkers Artist Showcase, with over 45 local artists exhibiting paintings, sculptures, photography, and mixed-media installations. Additionally, the event celebrated 20 Years of YOHO Open Studio, showcasing the work of over 35 YOHO studio artists who have participated in the Open Studio tradition since 2004.

Ray Wilcox, executive director at Yonkers Arts, commented on the talent within the city, stating that the exhibitions create an inspiring experience for art enthusiasts and residents alike. The event marks the beginning of the 10th Anniversary of Yonkers Arts Weekend.

Mayor Mike Spano praised the vibrant arts scene in Yonkers, highlighting new public art installations and the collaboration with Yonkers Arts to showcase local talent. He also mentioned the city’s youth who continue to inspire and contribute to the community’s artistic tapestry.
