Kedren Children’s Village: A New Era in Pediatric Behavioral Health in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA – In a significant development for pediatric mental health services, McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., in collaboration with HOK, has commenced construction on the Kedren Children’s Village. This state-of-the-art facility, located in the Watts neighborhood, is being developed for the Kedren Community Health Center Inc. and is expected to bolster the region’s health care landscape upon its completion in summer 2027.

With a substantial investment of 5 million, the Kedren Children’s Village aims to become one of the few pediatric-focused behavioral hospitals in the United States, marking a pivotal advancement in mental health care availability in South Los Angeles. Spanning 103,000 square feet, the facility will consist of three main structures, each designed to enhance the care delivery for children and adolescents experiencing mental health challenges.

The centerpiece of the campus will be an inpatient psychiatric facility, which will provide critical care for young patients in a supportive environment. Complementing the inpatient services, the facility will also offer outpatient care, including primary and urgent care, along with pharmacy services. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure that children receive the holistic care necessary for their recovery and well-being.

A noteworthy feature of the Kedren Children’s Village will be its 24-unit transitional housing development. This housing initiative is particularly significant, as it will serve families of patients undergoing treatment, as well as homeless families and individuals engaging with Kedren’s mental health programs. By providing temporary accommodations, the facility seeks to alleviate some of the immediate pressures that families face during their time of crisis.

Additionally, the campus will include a robust infrastructure featuring a parking structure, a physical therapy gym, and therapeutic outdoor spaces designed to promote relaxation and recreational activities. These amenities are integral to creating a healing environment that prioritizes both mental and physical health.

McCarthy’s involvement in the project extends beyond traditional construction services; the company is poised to deliver advanced design-build services that include expert concrete work, utility installation, and comprehensive landscape design. Notably, McCarthy will employ its EQUIP service, which focuses on integrated healthcare build strategies. This innovative approach aims to streamline equipment planning from the project’s inception, minimizing delays and costs associated with equipment changes.

As the Kedren Children’s Village takes shape, it represents a groundbreaking advancement for pediatric mental health in Los Angeles, addressing significant community needs while setting a new standard for care in the region. The completion of this facility is anticipated not only to enhance access to mental health services but also to offer a beacon of hope for families navigating the complexities of pediatric mental health challenges.
